2024 Has Been A Memoriable Year for Soccer So Far

A lot has happened in the soccer world during the year of 2024. Let’s see the major events that happened/are happening.

Player Transfers

Popular French soccer player, Kylian Mbappé Lottin, has joined Real Madrid Club de Fútbol (Real Madrid). Mbappé has changed his Instagram bio by adding “Real Madrid C.F.” This means he has left his previous club Paris Saint-Germain Football Club (PSG). 

German soccer player Timo Werner has rejoined the Tottenham Spurs Football Club. He will be rejoining for the 2024/2025 season. However he will be playing on loan, meaning he will leave Tottenham once his loan contract ends.

Tournament Winners

Soccer club Real Madrid Club de Fútbol (Real Madrid) has won the UEFA Champions League. Real Madrid won 2-0 against German soccer club Borussia Dortmund. The two goals were scored by none other than Vinicius Jr. and Carvajal. A memorable event at the Wembley Stadium.

Brazil won the 2024 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. They defeated Italy in the finals sealing them the tournament win. On Italy’s team, Genovali and Fazzini both scored twice. On Brazil’s team, Rodrigo scored 3 times, Bruno Xavier scored once, Genovali OG scored once, and Brendo scored once. The final score was 6-4, Brazil took home another tournament win.

Japan won the AFC U-23 Asian Cup. They defeated Uzbekistan in the finals sealing them the victory. On Japan’s side Yamada scored once. Nobody scored on Uzbekistan’s side. This made the final scored 1-0 to Japan’s favor sealing them the title 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup Champions.

Upcoming Tournaments

The UEFA EURO 2024 will be hosted in Germany. This will be the 17th EURO tournament. The 10 venues that will host the games are in Berlin, Stuttgart, Munich, Hamburg, Leipzig, Gelsenkirchen, Cologne, Dortmund, Frankfurt, and Düsseldorf. Groups A-F have been announced, this Euro will be an interesting one.

The 2024 Copa América will be this year’s Copa América tournament. It will be the 48th Copa América. The event will take place from June to July of 2024. Group A will have Canada, Chile, Peru, and Argentina. Group B will have Ecuador, Mexico, Jamaica, and Venezuela. Group C will have USA, Panama, Bolivia, and Uruguay. Group D will have Colombia, Brazil, Costa Rica, and Paraguay.

Player Retirement 

Indian soccer star Sunil Chhetri has retired from soccer, after playing his last match against Kuwait. The last teams he played for were the India National Football Team and Bengaluru F.C. He played #11 and forward. Many people say that soccer is no longer relevant in India due to the star Indian soccer player’s retirement.

After the UEFA EURO 2024, German soccer player Toni Kroos will be retiring from soccer. The last teams he will play for will be Real Madrid and Germany National Football Team. He will represent his country one last time in the 2024 EURO, then happily retire.
